Our Fight for Change
At CaydenFights, we stand with families like the Armours, fighting for every child's right to be cared for at home. Our hope soared when a federal judge issued a groundbreaking ruling, declaring Florida's unlawful segregation of children with complex medical needs. The state's failure to provide sufficient Medicaid services for home-based care was deemed a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). This ruling exposed the heart-wrenching reality faced by families, forcing them to make painful choices like institutionalizing their children due to the lack of reliablestate-provided home care.
The Heartbreaking Reality
Imagine a life where your child is isolated in a nursing home, far from the warmth of your family's embrace. This is the heart-wrenching reality for many families in Florida, including Conlan Armour and his son, Cayden. Cayden, now 9 years old, has spent most of his life in a nursing home, isolated and neglected, despite his family's desperate efforts to bring him home. Cayden's journey has been marked by incredible resilience, but his life took a tragic turn in 2014 when he survived a near-drowning caused by his mother's postpartum depression. Despite the odds stacked against him, Cayden has been the X-factor in their lives, growing and developing with unwavering spirit. However, as his medical needs grew, the state of Florida failed to provide adequate Medicaid services for home-based care. He deserved the love and warmth of his family, but the broken system stood in the way.
